The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery provides dynamic and varied visual arts experiences for the people of southern Utah. The gallery mounts educational exhibits throughout the year, offers programs related to its exhibitions, preserves and collects fine art, and serves as a resource center for the visual arts on the SUU campus and in Cedar City and the surrounding communities.
The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery being located on the campus of Southern Utah University frequently shows works from Faculty and Students. The Art and Design Faculty famous people Exhibition held February 7-March 14, 2008 is a good example. The Exhibition explored a variety of art forms, including ceramics, photography, oil painting and mixed media all created in the studios of the SUU Art and Design faculty.
"Our annual Art and Design Faculty Exhibition is a great opportunity for students and community members to experience the work of our talented Art and Design faculty," said Reece Summers, Gallery Director. "The show is not only a moving visual experience, but also an inspiration to students interested in pursuing a career in Art and Design."
In addition to student and faculty work the Gallery often presents works of national and international acclaim as with "Frederic Remington Makes Tracks...Adventures and Artistic Impressions" shown September 6-October 21, 2007 and "In Focus: National Geographic Greatest Portraits" shown September 11-November 1, 2008.
The Remington exhibit combined images printed during Remington's lifetime with silver recasts of his sculptures. The exhibit contained fifty prints, three fine silver recast sculptures, and one bronze portrait of Remington. The showing in Cedar City was part of a nine city national tour over a two and a half year period.
The National Geographic exhibit was a collection of 51 striking color and black-and-white photographs that explore the iconic images of our world. Surrounding the exhibit were educational programs designed for children from kindergarten to 6th grade. Over 2,000 local school children learned how a camera works, the history of the camera and how to capture different societies through photographs. According to Gallery Director, Reece Summers, "In Focus: National Geographic Greatest Portraits" set record-breaking attendance for the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery with over 7,000 visitors during the three week exhibit.
The Gallery also sponsors the milf porn annual High School Fine Art Competition Exhibit featuring the work of selected entrants from Utah high schools. This exhibit offers younger artists an opportunity to display their artwork and receive awards and critiques from the faculty of the SUU Department of Art and Design.
"Our annual Fine Art Competition offers high school age students, 15-18 years old in grades 9-12, the celebrity porn opportunity to submit their work in drawing, painting, ceramics and graphic design," says Reece Summers, Gallery Director. "This exhibit provides young artists an opportunity to present their artwork for adjudication, feedback, and awards."
